All of the productions at Theatre Unbound address the problem of gender bias in theatre. Statistics are that only 20 percent of the work on the American stage is written or directed by women. An even smaller percentage of shows are by women, with women lead characters who drive the story. As we enter our 20th year, we’re producing:

• “The Clean House, written by Sarah Ruhl” (Nov. 3-18): Invisibility of women (and men) over 50 as people who fall in love or can be fallen in love with.

• “24:00:00 Xtreme Theatre Smackdown 2019” (Jan. 12): Our annual ode to the problem of January in Minnesota, with a no-holds-barred evening of short plays by bold women artists who create new works in just 24 hours.

• “Iphigenia and Other Daughters,” written by Ellen McLaughlin (Feb. 23-March 9): The impact of war on families, in a stark show adapted from Greek tragedy.
