Join us for an afternoon of performance and poetry as we celebrate Gabrielle Civil’s new performance memoir, SWALLOW THE FISH (Civil Coping Mechanisms).
Detailing her coming of age as a black feminist performance artist, Gabrielle Civil’s memoir SWALLOW THE FISH is a love letter to art-making in the Twin Cities. To celebrate the book’s launch, she would like to make art and write love letters to you! Reprising her performance action “economy,” featured in SWALLOW THE FISH, Gabrielle will compose live poems and love letters on a typewriter in response to sections of her book. If you buy a book, she will type a live love letter to you and sign it--along with your copy of the book.
Visitors are welcome to write their own missives with materials provided, and to display them in our reading nook in advance of National Poetry Month.
FREE and open to the public, all are welcome.
