A Writing Intensive with Deena Metzger
Aslan Institute,4141 Old Sibley Memorial Highway,
Join us for a time of deep reflection and writing if:
You have a story to tell….
You’re at the beginning of a project, you’re in the middle, you’ve finished the first draft…. You are starting a new manuscript, you have a vision….
You feel called to write and aren’t even sure why, how, or what….
You’re ready to write but can’t get started….
You’re a writer and you want to be sparked or are in the middle of the story and stuck…
You’ve finished the first draft and want to go deeper and smarter ….
You’re a writer and you want your work to heal and be part of a literature of restoration….
What we write matters. Together and as individuals we seek out supportive community, inspiration and new forms resonant with the land and these times of grief and possibility for the future of all our relations.
On behalf of our writing and the word we will engage in storytelling, dream telling, ethical reflection, prayer, meditation, silence, divination, indigenous and wisdom traditions and the voices of both the visible and invisible presences on behalf of a vital and sustainable future for all beings.
There will be ample writing time, insight & inspiration, writing prompts with Deena, occasions to read and to listen to each other’s work, dream and story telling, silence and a circle of support.

Deena is a poet, novelist, and essayist. Her latest novels are Feral and La Negra y Blanca, which won the 2102 PEN Oakland Award for Literature. You may also want to read Ruin and Beauty: New and Collected Poems, and Entering the Ghost River: Meditations on the Theory and Practice of Healing.
She is storyteller, ritual practitioner, spiritual teacher and healer. She developed Healing Stories as a creative therapeutic process to address life threatening diseases, spiritual and emotional crises, as well as community, political and environmental disintegration. She convened ReVisioning Medicine in 2004. Since then she has been exploring a Literature of Restoration to meet these times.
Deena has spent a lifetime investigating Story as a form of knowing and healing. As a writer, she asks: Who do we have to become to find the forms and sacred language with which to meet these times?
