The women of Standing Rock and Stand Up Minnesota, the parents of a transgender child, artists and citizen activists, business owners and demonstrators - in this issue of the magazine we celebrate organizations and individuals who are acting up for social change. And we proudly include the Minnesota Women's Press among them.
More than 30 years ago the Minnesota Women's Press began to tell women's stories in ways that create community and encourage change. Over that time we've published thousands of profiles, features and essays by and about women, sharing their stories, voices and opinions. Many things have changed for women since we started publishing in 1985 - and many have not. In these times of renewed challenges to much of what women have worked for, the Minnesota Women's Press is needed now more than ever.
We have a history of successful leadership transition at the Minnesota Women's Press, and we are looking ahead to the next generation of leadership ready to move the conversation forward with current and future feminist thinking. We are looking for someone or a group of progressive women with enthusiasm for running a small business and the opportunities to shape it. It's exciting to explore new leadership that will maintain our proud history and take us forward in new ways.
Over the decades of publishing women's stories and voices we've developed a loyal readership with solid demographics, an extensive distribution system of locations and event partners, and a strong advertiser base. The organization is healthy, profitable and debt-free.
As we mentioned, many things have changed and many have not. During this search for new leadership, we'll be continuing with business as usual - sharing women's stories, voices and advertising messages every month, while we are taking our time to look for just the right person or group to lead the Minnesota Women's Press into its next years. We are not in a hurry.
