Experiencing Mary's Magnificat in the Words of Martin Luther and Elizabeth Johnson
1890 Randolph Ave
As we mark the 500th Commemoration of the Reformation, what do Martin Luther and a contemporary feminist Catholic theologian have to tell us about Mary’s Magnificat? Together we will read, sing, and delve into Mary's song in Luke 1:46-55.
Guided by the words and insights of Martin Luther and Elizabeth Johnson and other theologians, we will consider Luke's and Mary's relationship to power and compare it to our own. We will also examine the biblical connections among Mary, Elizabeth and Hannah, especially Hannah’s Song.
Come explore the many ways the Magnificat has shaped Catholic and Lutheran understandings and faith perspectives, as evidenced by our presenters – a Lutheran professor of Old Testament and a Catholic Marian scholar.
