Important state decisions are determined by census data collected every 10 years: political representation, allocation of public funds, strategic business decisions (markets, labor force, housing needs). Susan Brower, Minnesota State Demographer, says the census “is so foundational, yet invisible.”

Historically immigrants, LGBTQ, the transient, and children under five are undercounted. To correct that in 2020, a statewide team is being formed, to include trusted members of communities to talk about the importance of being counted.
