As a young girl, as far back as I could remember, I had an inexplicable feeling of being unwanted.  Although my parents divorced when I was 2, I had an otherwise loving family and was popular with "the cool kids."  Nonetheless, I always anticipated that people wouldn't be interested in what I had to say or that the cute boy I had a crush on would never be interested in me.

Actually, I wasn't even conscious of this belief until I went through a series of breathwork sessions in my early 20s.  A technique of deep, rhythmic breathing increased the level of prana/chi/life force energy in my body, causing cellular memories of being unwanted to surface.  When I mentioned this to the breathwork practitioner, she encouraged me to talk to my mother about my birth.

I learned that at the time of my conception my mother was very unhappy in her marriage and was considering leaving my father.  She told me, "Having another child with that man was the last thing I wanted."  When I heard those words, every cell in my body tingled in recognition of this unacknowledged truth.  I knew it!

My mother went on to tell me that once she felt life, she very much wanted and loved me.  However, her initial feelings had been imprinted in my cells-the ones from which all other cells in my body would be replicated.

I became fascinated with the research on how prenatal and birth experiences influence a person's life.  I read books like "The Secret Life of the Unborn Child" by Thomas Verny, M.D., and became a member of the Association for Pre- & Perinatal Psychology & Health.  I knew then that I had found my purpose. After serving as a childbirth educator and doula, I founded a nonprofit organization, Ten Moons Rising Holistic Family Education, with the dream of telling the world about prenatal and birth psychology.

My journey, which has led me to heal much of the trauma of my early life, is now leading me to places of power within myself that I never knew existed.  The young woman who failed a college project because speaking in front of the class was unthinkable now does professional speaking engagements.  The dream to share this information with the world, which at first seemed like wishful thinking, is now being realized as people from Mexico, Australia, France and Slovenia subscribe to the newsletter!

Whether it is through accessing one's innate wisdom by physically giving birth or by exploring the hidden gifts and wisdom in the experiences of one's own birth, it is my intention to inspire growing numbers of women to explore, and find healing, in this realm of fundamental creative power.  After all, reclaiming our power is the ultimate Women's Work.
